William R. Rakes, a partner with the Roanoke, Virginia-based law firm Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore, LLP has been named "Roanoke Banking Lawyer of the Year" for 2009 by Best Lawyers, the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession. Only a single attorney in each specialty in each community is honored with this designation.
Rakes' practice areas include commercial litigation; business, estate, probate & trust litigation and professional liability. He was president and co-founder of The Ted Dalton American Inn of Court, and is co-founder, chairman, and general counsel of HomeTown Bank. He has served on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association and has been president of the Virginia State Bar and the Roanoke Bar Association.
Rakes received both his Bachelor of Arts and law degrees from the University of Virginia.
