Gentry Locke's Faith and Law Seminar took place on October 6th at the Sheraton Roanoke Hotel & Conference Center. Religious and lay leaders from congregations encompassing over a dozen distinct religions were in attendance, as was representation from nursing homes and social service agencies.

This apparently was the first legal seminar in this region, or in Virginia, designed to benefit faith-based nonprofit organizations and religious institutions. Attendees had traveled for hours from outlying areas and neighboring states. As one attendee noted, "Thank you for offering this seminar for faith-based organizations. This group is often overlooked when it comes to timely information and topics of interest."
Sessions focused on issues that many organizations find challenging: legal liability; employment, volunteers, and background checks; responsibilities to tax and municipal authorities; insurance coverage for premises and transportation of members; governance options and Board responsibilities; public relations; and constructing or maintaining buildings and facilities. Of those surveyed, 100% would like to see the seminar become a recurring event.
Access Advertising + PR partnered with Gentry Locke in organizing and promoting the event. Presenters included Gentry Locke attorneys from Labor & Employment, Insurance, Business Law, Commercial Litigation, and Plaintiff's practice groups. Guest presenters included John Carlin, Senior V.P. of Access Advertising and PR; Christopher Powell and Vance Groce of BB&T Insurance Services; and Bob Price of R.L. Price Construction.
