Three Attorneys Become Partners at Gentry Locke

The Virginia law firm of Gentry Locke Rakes & Moore is pleased to announce that three attorneys have been named Partners to the Firm as of January 1, 2010.

David N. Cohan

Since joining the Firm in 2006, David Cohan has focused his practice on commercial transactions that include intellectual property, real estate and leasing, banking, and  corporate formation and governance work for businesses and LLCs.

Originally from East Brunswick, New Jersey, David received his undergraduate degree with high honors from Rutgers University. In 1989 he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. He was recently appointed to the Intellectual Property and Information Technology Council of The Virginia Bar Association and has received the Roanoke Bar Association Volunteer Service Award for each of the past three years. In addition to membership with the American Intellectual Property Law Association and other organizations, Mr. Cohan is a former graduate and advisor for Leadership Roanoke Valley. He is on the Board of Directors and was Past President of the Roanoke Ski Club, and volunteers for the Jefferson Center and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra.

Lewis A. Conner

In addition to practicing law, Lewis Conner is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant. Since joining the Firm in 2007, he has focused his practice on tax planning, tax controversy, executive compensation, and general corporate legal matters.

Prior to joining the Firm, Lewis served as the Vice-President Finance and Acting General Counsel for Professional Healthcare Resources, Inc., a provider of home healthcare services in Northern Virginia. His prior experience also includes employment as a CPA with KPMG, LLP.

Originally from Roanoke, Lewis received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In 2003, he earned his Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the George Mason University School of Law. In addition to being a member of The Virginia Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accounts, Mr. Conner is a participant in Leadership Roanoke Valley.

James J. O'Keeffe, IV

Since joining the Firm in 2006, Jay O'Keeffe has split his time between helping businesses litigate and resolve commercial disputes and prosecuting and defending appeals in Virginia's state and federal courts. Before joining Gentry Locke, Jay was an associate with the Washington, DC office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

In addition to practicing law, Jay maintains a weblog, De Novo: A Virginia Appellate Law Blog, which is found at www.virginiaappellatelaw.com.

Jay received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the College of William & Mary. In 2002, he graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School. He was designated a Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Star in Business Litigation and Appellate Law in 2008 and 2009. He recently completed the National Trial Advocacy College at the University of Virginia School of Law. Jay belongs to numerous bar association committees and subcommittees, and he serves as a board member and legal advisor to the Saint Francis of Assisi Service Dog Foundation.
