Callie Loveland practices with the firm’s Commercial Litigation and White Collar Defense, Investigations & Compliance practice groups. Prior to joining the firm as an attorney, Callie was a Summer Associate with Gentry Locke.
Callie earned her J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law, where she belonged to the Order of the Coif and the McNeill Law Society. While attending law school, Callie received the National Association of Women Lawyers Award for Richmond Law where she demonstrated academic achievement, professionalism, and the potential to contribute to the advancement of women in society. She also served as the University of Richmond Law Review’s Managing Editor. Prior to law school, she received her B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was a John B. Ervin Scholar.

Who or what inspired you to become a lawyer?
I think I first got the idea in high school, although I was adamant I wanted to be an architect. I went to a magnet school for government and international studies, and my first comparative history class really made me think about the different legal systems globally. I followed that through with an International Studies degree in undergrad (after abandoning architecture), and knew I wanted to be a part of our legal system.

You like to travel. Tell us about your favorite countries to visit.
My all-time favorite right now is Japan. I went after taking the bar, and I expected to enjoy it, but I had no idea how much I would fall in love with it. Even working through a massive language barrier, I had some of the most uniquely welcoming travel experiences of my life. Just ask me about the impromptu traditional tea ceremony in a pearl shop!

If you had chosen a career other than law, what would you be doing today?
I would definitely be a chef or a baker. I’ve always said that’s my back-up plan. I enjoy spending my free time working on recipe development and the next (gluten-free!) dessert. I almost never repeat a recipe – it has to be really, really good for that, like my bourbon and coffee braised short ribs.
